The Settlers High School is situated comfortably
on the border between Cape Town and Bellville, and scenic views
of the Table Mountain range and Tygerberg can be had from each
of the school's sports fields.
Our school has grown in more ways than one since its humble beginnings
and now rates as one of the top schools in the Western Cape. Evidence
of this can be found no matter where one looks at the school.
Academically the school has reached great heights,
In 2006 the school received two awards from the
Minister of Education and the Head of Education: 1st: Consistent
Excellence in the Academic Field (2004 - 2006) (One of ten school
acknowledged) 2nd: Greatest Increase in number of candidates who
passed Physical Science HG. We were also one of the top 10 schools
in the Western Cape in 2006.
What is also remarkable is the knowledge that
amongst the school's academic achievers we a diverse international
group including exchange students. This is due to the fact that
the school has an extremely friendly and supportive environment,
which has resulted in many immigrants enrolling at The Settlers.
This cosmopolitan atmosphere is furthermore reflected
in the cultural heights to which the school aspires. Each learner
is encouraged and motivated to bring something of their own to
the table, so to speak, and our informal cultural functions are
a smorgasbord of activities. Formal cultural activities also abound,
what with the school play , the Interhouse Plays, debating to
name but a few. The Settlers has been extremely proficient at
debating for the past two years, both in English and Afrikaans.
On the sports field too, The Settlers has shown
its worth. Settlers had representatives in Western Province rugby,
cricket, hockey and netball.
This year 2006 our Boys and Girls Hockey toured
Malaysia and in 2007 our Rugby team toured Argentina. In 2009
the rugby team toured Italy and in 2011 will go to France. What
a wonderful educational and sporting experience for those individuals.
In 2008 our recorder groups attended classes
in England and our Jazz Combo had a school exchange with the Wagenburg
Gymnasium in Stuttgart, Germany. 2010 saw the school continue
the exchange with Germany with a reciprocal visit.
All in all the results prove that The Settlers
High School is succeeding in its aim to provide a balanced education.
The senior management team, the Exco, has a seminar
at the end of the year to assess all the aspects of the school.
Their report is an excellent overview of the ethos of the school.
